An experienced, qualified and understanding therapist
Total confidentiality
An atmosphere of support and trust
An initial consultation to plan an effective programme for you
Individual sessions usually lasting for one hour
The initial stage of therapy always begins with a consultation. The consultation, like all other sessions, will last for one hour and forms a vital part of therapy. Apart from the opportunity for you to get to know me, you will have any questions answered or concerns addressed.
I may ask you a number of questions and may take brief notes. These questions will help both you and I to gain a fuller understanding of your problem and help you to focus on what you would like the outcome of the sessions to be. It is normal to feel a little anxiety in new situations, and meeting me for the first time is no exception. I will do my best to ensure that you feel comfortable and relaxed.
During the consultation, after I have gained an understanding of your issue, I will offer a suggested treatment programme, which may just be a single session or may be a number of sessions planned over a short period of time. Generally, hypnotherapy works as a short, solution focused therapy, and it is common for clients to come to therapy for 2 - 4 sessions.
I am experienced and trained in a wide variety of techniques. Therapy is at its most effective when it is tailored to a clients personality and needs. At the consultation I will create a schedule of change which will utilize what I consider to be the most effective methods of treatment.
Your session will take place in a warm and comfortable room, where you can relax completely. You do not need to bring anything with you to the session, nor do you need to wear any special clothing.
No hypnotherapy will take place without you being aware of what is happening, and I will let you know when hypnosis is about to start. You will be gently guided into relaxation, and you will be given plenty of time to ensure that you reach a pleasant deep feeling of relaxation so that therapy can take place.
After the session you will be gently guided back to full wakefulness and alertness. I will ensure that you are fully awake before closing the session. At the end of the session, you will be fine to carry on with the rest of your day.
Can hypnotherapy make me do something I don't really want to do?
No, you unconscious mind will not allow you to do anything you are not entirely comfortable with. Hypnotherapy will help you make the changes that you want to make, in the right way for you.
Is it like stage hypnosis?
Not at all, stage hypnosis is for entertainment only. Many of you may only know of hypnosis from old movies or TV programs. Let's dispel that common myth that hypnosis uses mind control techniques. The stage hypnotist's trade is one of careful selection, illusion and reliance on his picking extraverted subjects who are happy to entertain the audience.
How are Hypnotherapy Practitioners Registered?
Suitably qualified hypnotherapists can apply for membership of hypnotherapy bodies. I am a member of one of the largest "The Hypnotherapy Society". Each member is bound by a specific code of ethics and has to demonstrate ongoing competence to remain a member. Only practitioners who have completed the required level of training and are suitably insured can apply for membership of these trade bodies.
